David M. Carp Papers on Latin Jazz

The archival collection comprises information gathered by David M. Carp concerning the Latin and jazz music scenes in The Bronx, particularly between the 1940s and 1960s. The main feature of the collection is audiotapes of interviews with hundreds of musicians, many with accompanying transcriptions. Many of these interviews were done for radio shows in the 1990s, wherein the musicians discussed their music and related matters. The collection also contains a wealth of research material gathered by Carp to document specific musicians and venues in The Bronx and elsewhere. Much of research consists of photocopies of newspapers and other printed material from the middle of the twentieth century, in both English and Spanish.
