Subject

Description

In this recording, part of a larger video memoir project, lifetime activist and educator Suzanne Ross speaks about her time at Barnard College.

From Suzanne: "I went to Barnard, was determined to gain independence from my parents, and was forced to fight their resistance. A major emotional crisis followed for me. I recovered from the meltdown, became a good student again, graduated, and moved on to getting my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Columbia. I had made it into the middle class, with a Ph.D and a professional identity as a clinical psychologist! This was an impressive accomplishment given that my father had never attended school at all, my mother only eight years of elementary school, and no one else in my extended family had attended college."
