Biography

Jamaal Bowman was elected to New York's 16th U.S. congressional district, which contains parts of the northern Bronx and southern Westchester County, in November 2020 and began serving his first term in 2021. Prior to entering politics, Bowman's professional background was in education. He beat 16-term incumbent, Eliot Engel, in the New York State Democratic Party primary in June 2020.

Description/Scope and Content

The collection contains campaign material from Jamaal Bowman's Democratic Primary campaign in June 2020 and his general election campaign in Fall 2020. It also contains photographs of Jamaal Bowman's campaign staff and examples of "dog whistle" campaign material from the incumbent, Eliot Engel.

Provenance

This collection was donated in July 2021 by Bianca Guerrero, field director for Bowman for Congress, June–November 2020.
