Administrative History

Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College, part of the City University of New York, was founded in 1968 and opened its doors to students in September 1970. It was specifically placed in the South Bronx to combat poverty and other problems then overwhelming the community, and was charged first and foremost with serving local residents. It is the only college within the city university system, and one of few colleges in the nation, dedicated to providing bilingual education in both English and Spanish.
