Biography

Samuel Keeler was born on November 19, 1845, in Wilton, Connecticut. He graduated from Yale University in 1867 and went on to become president of the Ridgefield Savings Bank and a New York attorney specializing in real estate. He was married to Isabella Kiley Keeler and the couple lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Samuel commuted to his office in New York for forty-four years until three weeks before his death in July 1932.

Description/Scope and Content

The Samuel Keeler Papers contain legal documents concerning Bronx property disputes, including deeds, bonds, and mortgages in question in these disputes.

The collection is organized into the five following series:

1) Legal proceedings, 1911–1928;

2) Deeds, 1910–1917;

3) Bonds, 1899–1926;

4) Mortgages, 1904–1926;

5) Miscellaneous, 1900–1928.

Provenance

The Samuel Keeler Papers were transferred to the Society by the Keller Tavern Museum of Ridgefield, Connecticut, in July 1997.
